ABSTRACT
The paper presents the results of numerical modelling and experimental verification of thermal phenomena during the hot stamping of components made of 22MnB5 manganese-boron steel. First, a numerical model of the stamping process was developed in AutoForm, and numerical analyses were carried out to investigate the effect of the heat transfer coefficient on the temperature distribution in the tools and the drawpiece. The numerical model was then validated under actual process conditions using a stamping die equipped with an innovative temperature measurement system, with thermocouples located 0.5-1 mm below the working surface. The simulation results correlate well with the experimental measurements. Mechanical testing of the drawpieces (hardness above 400 HV and tensile strength Rm exceeding 1400 MPa) confirmed the formation of the required martensitic structure and, consequently, the validity of the developed hot-stamping process.
