ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate the variability of soil sorption properties, the total content of Ca, Mg, and Na, and the levels of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in soils representing various land-use types in the vicinity of the Lubelski Węgiel "Bogdanka" S.A. mine. Soils under different land-use regimes were examined, including arable land, meadows, forests, area next to a road, floodplains, and areas next to a reservoir. Samples were collected from two soil layers: 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm. Hydrolytic acidity (HA), the sum of basic cations (EBC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), and base saturation (V) were determined. Additionally, the total content of Ca, Mg, and Na, as well as selected heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn), was measured. Analysis of the parameters revealed variations in soil chemical properties depending on land use and sampling depth. The observed differences in sorption properties, mineral nutrient status, and heavy metal content indicate complex factors influencing soil chemistry in the study area. The results complement the existing assessment of the soil environment in the Lubelski Węgiel "Bogdanka" S.A. region and can be utilized for environmental monitoring and the assessment of soil changes resulting from mining-related activities.
