The paper presents the results of research on the properties of an austenitic steel used in the shipbuilding industry. Static tensile tests were conducted using an MTS testing machine, while dynamic tensile tests were carried out with rotary hammer at strain rates ranging from 250 to 2100 s-1. The obtained results were used to calibrate a Johnson-Cook model and the corresponding failure parameters suitable for Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. This model was then used to simulate the response of the specimen subjected to impact loading at various strain rates.
