The aim of this study was to conduct a preliminary assessment of particulate emissions generated during the cutting of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bags using an automatic slitting machine. The investigation focused on the characterization of particle number concentration and size distribution, which are relevant parameters in evaluating the environmental impact of polymer processing operations within the framework of European Union sustainability policies. Measurements were performed using an Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer (EEPS 3090), enabling real-time analysis of particle number and mass concentrations in the nanometer size range. The obtained results provide baseline data for identifying emission sources and formulating potential mitigation strategies aimed at reducing particulate release in plastic processing systems.
