The process of design, development and production of cars has been strongly influenced using computer technology since the 1980s. The philosophy of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) approaches has become an integral part of the automotive industry. These technologies have shortened the innovation cycle in car model lines to 6-8 years. In the middle of this cycle, the so-called facelift of the model line is employed when there are certain shape changes of the exterior and interior of the car, or the equipment is expanded with new or improved elements. CAx systems enable changes to be made in such a short period of time. CAD systems are characterized as parametric graphic systems with a history of product creation. CAD system parameters make the product model variable and open to rapid change procedures. Currently, at work with CAD software, the possibilities of modelling methodology - known as parametric modelling - are increasingly beginning to be used. It is a way of computer modelling of any component or equipment where individual dimensions or variables are controlled by-so called parameters. Linking predefined control parameters to a spreadsheet is a functionality that can be used, for example, by a sales representative in dealings with a potential customer. It can also help a CAM specialist who needs to resize a model without having to master the CAD in which the model to be machined was created. The incorporation of customer or production requirements will be reflected not only in the change in the shape of the product but also in all other processes that lead to mass production. The change of the product will affect the change of the shape of the mold, the CNC program, on the basis of which the cavity and the mold insert will be produced, the possible simulations of injection molding, etc. We can conclude that modelling with constraints is a modern approach to product modelling. Parametric CAD-systems reflects the impact of these new technologies.
